DATA: €14.6 Bn of green energy products' imports in the EU in 2024; €5.3 Bn of exports

"In 2024, the EU imported €11.1 Bn worth of solar panels, €2.9 Bn of liquid biofuels, and €0.5 Bn worth of wind turbines from extra-EU countries, totalling almost €14.6 billion in imports of green energy products", analyses Eurostat on 09/10/2025.

The value of imported solar panels and liquid biofuels decreased by 43% and 25%, respectively, compared to 2023, due to a drop in prices, while the value of imports of wind turbines rose by 102% since 2023.

The EU exported €0.7 Bn worth of solar panels, €1.8 Bn in liquid biofuels, and €2.8 Bn in wind turbines, totaling €5.3 Bn of green energy products' exports.

China and India are the main import partners for green energy products in the EU. China accounted for 98% of solar panels' imports in the EU both in 2023 and 2024, and for 24% of liquid biofuels in 2024, compared to 36% in 2023. For wind turbines, India was the main import partner for the EU with 48% in 2024, and China was the second one with 43% in 2024.

Liquid biofuels are imported products that come from the largest variety of countries: 24% from China, 15% from Malaysia, 13% from the UK, 12% from Brazil, 11% from Argentina, and 8% from the US.
