TotalEnergies: appeal lodged against conviction for “breaches of the corporate duty of vigilance law ”

TotalEnergies is appealing against the judgement handed down by the Paris Judicial Court on 25 June 2026, in which the company was found guilty of failing to fulfil its duty of care regarding climate change, the Group announced on 27 July 2026.

This decision was taken following deliberations by the Group’s Board of Directors, which put forward three main arguments to justify its decision to seek a review of the judgement at the Court of Appeal.

Firstly, the company considers, “as the Court has argued, that climate change, as a global phenomenon, does not fall within the scope of the law on the duty of care.
