ENVI Council: the main conclusions of the last environmental meeting under the Cyprus Presidency

"Cyprus presidency, guided by our motto “an autonomous union open to the world”, has delivered tangible progress on the EU's climate and environment agenda while strengthening its global leadership in key international processes", said Maria Panayiotou, minister of agriculture, rural Development and environment of the Republic of Cyprus, after the last ENVI Council under the Cyprus Presidency, on 25/06/2026.

During this meeting, in addition to the CO2 standards for cans and vans, already detailed in a previous news, multiples topics were discussed, and notably :

• REACH regulation : a full revision is not planned due to increased pressures on the chemical industry and the need for regulatory certainty. Instead, the focus will be on improving effectiveness within the current framework.

• Water resilience strategy : the Council reviewed progress on water efficiency, digitalization, and financing initiatives, but financing remains a critical challenge, alongside with innovative instruments and stable frameworks
