FR / Fonds vert 2023/2026: €4.5B backing 25,000 projects, but annual grants down 58%

“Since its creation in 2023, the Fonds vert [a French State scheme designed to support climate adaptation at local level] has supported 25,000 projects led by local stakeholders, with a total of €4.5 billion in grants,” says Monique Barbut, Minister for Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Climate and Nature Negotiations, quoted in the Green Fund review published by the government on 19 June 2026.

Launched in 2023, the Fonds vert aims to accelerate the ecological transition across the regions by “supporting projects at grassroots level, simplifying access to funding and promoting solutions that are immediately operational”.

“Beyond the projects it funds, the Fonds vert has a major leverage effect: €4.5 billion in grants has generated €37.3 billion in public and private investment in support of the green transition,” Monique Barbut also points out.
