Climate-related loss: "The integration of health across climate policy instruments remains uneven" (UNEP)

"Health is now more prominently positioned as a critical dimension of climate-related loss and Damage (L&D). However, integration remains uneven across policy instruments", according to a new report examining how countries are reflecting health-related losses and impacts within national climate policy frameworks, released by UNEP Copenhagen Climate Center (UNEP-CCC) on 12/06/2026.

The findings shows that "addressing this gap will require stronger integration of health across climate policy instruments, clearer articulation of cross-sectoral pathways, greater attention to mental health and long-term system resilience, and improved alignment between vulnerability analysis and implementation".

UNEP stresses that "health national adaptation plans demonstrate the most comprehensive coverage, followed by National adaptation plans, while NDCs, despite their central role in shaping international climate commitments, show limited inclusion".
