FR / Ademe reform: "Standing still has never saved anyone" (Françoise Gatel, Minister)

"It's not a question of abolishing the Ademe (the French public agency for Environment). The agency has the legitimacy to guide its policies, but it also implements a national project. So the idea is to work together rather than side by side. Standing still has never saved anyone and has never been a symbol of effective performance. But we have to do it together, in a calm manner, respecting each other's views", declared Françoise Gatel, Minister for Spatial Planning and Decentralisation, at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting on 20/05/2026.

The draft bill "aimed at strengthening the State at local level, coordinating its action with local authorities and providing greater security for public decision-makers" was presented to the Council of Ministers on 20/05/2026. Article 7 of the bill provides for "the integration of the Ademe's regional delegations into the Dreal (Direction régionale de l'Environnement, de l'Aménagement et du Logement).
