The Commission launched a public consultation on the European Ocean Act on 23/04/2026. Open until 16/07/2026, it will "help shape the legislative proposal under the European Ocean Pact", which is set for adoption by the end of 2026.

This Act's mission is to "strengthen the ocean governance in the EU", protect the ocean resources and use them sustainably.

The call for public consultation is open to citizens, coastal communities, experts, stakeholders, public authorities and administrations.

A call for evidence was launched on 12/01/2026 and ended on 09/02/2026 as a way to support the impact assessment and the quantification of costs and benefits conducted by the Commission. 754 feedbacks were collected via the Commission's platform, including 505 from EU citizens, 70 from NGOs, 35 from Academics, 28 from business associations and 22 from public authorities. Countries that contributed the most to the call for evidence were France, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy.
