Française de l'Énergie: completion of drilling in Moselle; discovery of a natural hydrogen deposit

La Française de l'Énergie announces the completion of drilling PTH-2 for natural hydrogen at Pontpierre (Moselle) on 23/03/2026. It confirms the presence of natural hydrogen in several underground intervals, says the company.

FDE holds an exclusive exploration licence known as the "Trois-Évêchés" covering an area of 2,254 km². This is Europe's largest natural hydrogen exploration licence. Further appraisal wells are being prepared to estimate the precise extent and volume of the deposit. The company plans to certify the deposit from 2027.

The operation is being carried out as part of the Regalor II research and development programme, led by La Française de l'Énergie, in partnership with the University of Lorraine, the CNRS, the Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières (BRGM) and Solexperts. Regalor II aims to test the new generation of measurement equipment (SysMoG probes), confirm the genesis of this primary energy source and certify its quantity.
