€6M invested by the Soros Economic Development Fund to accelerate the climate transition in Africa

The Soros Economic Development Fund invests $7M (€6M) in the Persistent Africa Climate Venture Builder Fund to accelerate climate innovation and inclusive green growth in Africa, announced the US-based Foundation on 10/03/2026. It will also offer technical support via a venture building program.

The awaited impact on the field is the mitigation of 17 million tons of CO2 emissions, the creation of 60.000 jobs, 420.000 households with improved electricity connections, $450M (€391M) additional investment catalysed and over 7 million beneficiaries.

The Persistent Africa Climate Venture Builder Fund is “a $70M (approximately €61M) blended finance structure that invests in early-stage climate impact ventures that address climate change mitigation and transition. [It] targets early-stage African climate ventures with a focus on companies advancing the continent’s energy transition.”

Areas of action are e-mobility, solar energy, the productive use of energy, energy efficiency and agriculture and “resource-transition” businesses, for example, recycling or waste management.
