Wave energy: Seaturns wins first pre-commercial project (2 MW) in Mauritius

Seaturns, the developer of a technology for producing electricity from wave energy, announced on 10/03/2026 that it had launched its first pre-commercial project in Mauritius.

The Bordeaux-based company has won the "National Scheme for Emerging Project Concepts Based on Renewable Energy Technologies" Round 3 call for projects issued by the Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency. The scheme provides support for innovative renewable energy technologies, and includes a power purchase agreement with Central Electricity Board, Mauritius' national operator.

The first stage of the project involves the installation of a 2 MW pilot farm, connected to the Mauritian grid, with the aim of "demonstrating the industrial performance and reliability of Seaturns technology in real operating conditions". Depending on the results, an extension of up to a further 8 GW will be possible.

This is the first pre-commercial project for a wave farm connected to a national electricity grid, according to Seaturns.
