Representing nature in companies: a bill tabled at the French National Assembly by Charles Fournier (MP)

A draft law aimed at representing nature in corporate governance was submitted to the National Assembly on 03/03/2026 by Charles Fournier MP (Ecologiste et Social), announced a coalition of associations that worked on the text on 10/03/2026.

In their proposal, the MP and the coalition of associations, including Vivøices, Notre Affaire à Tous, Corporate Regeneration, Earth Law Center, B Lab France and Mouvess, envisage placing nature in a "triple role":

• "As a player in social dialogue, by making it compulsory to set up an environment committee within the social and economic committee (CSE) and to train elected representatives in the protection of natural ecosystems and respect for planetary limits.
• As stakeholders on boards of directors, by appointing two independent directors nominated by the Board of Directors, offering academic credentials on environmental issues and having no common interests with the company on which they sit.
• "At the heart of shareholders' general meetings", by changing company law.
