Solar energy: Engie commissions a 753 MW PV complex in Brazil

On 23/02/2026, Engie announced the commissioning of the Assú Sol photovoltaic complex, a set of 16 solar PV parks with a total installed capacity of 753 MW located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil). The park will generate electricity to cover the annual needs of 850,000 people.

Assú Sol is located on an area of 2,344 hectares and includes 1.3 million PV modules, 12,000 km of cabling and 53 km of internal access roads.

Work was completed in December 2025 after 30 months of construction. The project represented a total investment of R$3.3bn (€541m), mobilised 4,500 direct jobs, as well as technologies such as aerial mapping using drones, the use of automated graders integrated with 3D models, and the use of an automatic piling machine dedicated to solar power, a first in Brazil according to Engie. "The use of these solutions has enabled the project to be carried out more precisely, quickly and safely, while improving its industrial and environmental performance", says the energy company.
