FR / Domestic flights: obligation to offset 50% of GHG emissions extended to 2026 (OJ)

The minimum rate of greenhouse gas emissions offset by airlines for flights within France has been set at 50% for 2026, by Order of 30/01/2026, published in the Journal officiel on 07/02.

The text, which amends the order of 26/04/2022, specifies that this rate has "gradually increased from 2022 to 2025", rising from 20% for emissions in 2022, to 35% for emissions in 2023, then to 50% for emissions in 2024 and 2025, and has therefore been renewed for 2026.

The text specifies that "a new order will have to be issued before 30/06/2026 to set a new percentage for 2027 and subsequent years."

The ceiling price per tonne of CO₂ offset (reduced or sequestered) remains €40 for European projects, and is not modified by this order.

Beyond this, the operator may waive this obligation, provided that it can justify "that it is no longer able to find emission reduction or sequestration projects below this price in sufficient quantity to meet the minimum percentage determined".
