The European Commission and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) renewed their partnership by signing an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding on 27 October 2026.

Signed by Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, and Inger Andersen, UNEP's Executive Director, it recognises the “central importance of environmental action for worldwide security, peace and stability”.

The cooperation framework, built on the EU Commission's priorities and UNEP's new medium-term strategy for 2026-2029, is structured around 3 pillars :
• Climate action for sustainability, resilience, competitiveness and security.
• Ecosystems action across land, ocean and freshwater systems.
• Scaling up circular economy, resource-efficient and pollution-free value…
