Solar and batteries: 982 000 FTE jobs in the EU in 2025 (SolarPower Europe)

The solar and battery storage sectors accounted for nearly 1 million FTE jobs in the EU in 2025, of which 874,000 were in solar and 108,000 in storage, according to SolarPower Europe’s EU Solar Jobs Report 2026, published on 7 October 2026. However, solar employment is expected to decline by 2030 if the current market trend continues.

Despite a challenging market environment, solar employment grew by 1 per cent in 2025, compared with 0.5 per cent for overall employment in the EU, with 69 GW of installed capacity in 2025. Deployment accounts for around 85 per cent of jobs in the sector. Employment in operation and maintenance is growing in line with the expansion of the installed capacity.
