Continuing the pursuit of clean electrification as central to the energy transition, maintaining science as the backbone of all climate action, despite global hesitation and denialism, and prioritizing resilience. Those were the three messages from the EU addressed by Woepke Hoekstra at the Pacific pre-COP 31 held in Suva, Fiji, on 7 October 2026.

The Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth attends the event, which precedes and prepares for the COP31 negotiations. It opened on 5 October and will end on 8 October.
