Source-to-sea: new assessments for eight Member States underline pollution is one of the main obstacles

The European Commission has published new Assessments of third River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) and second Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) for 8 Member States, which underline that “pollution remains one of the biggest obstacles to achieving good ecological and chemical status,” on 5 October 2026.

Those new documents, which describe the state of EU water bodies in each country, complement the Commission's seventh implementation report published in February 2025.

They are now available for Member States that did not provide data in time for the initial reports published in Feb 2025, which are : Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia.
