ETS1 review : EEB, CAN Europe and CMW “urge EU Environment ministers to keep sight of what is at stake”

“Europe’s industrial challenge is real. But the answer cannot be to weaken one of the EU’s most important tools for cutting emissions and driving the clean transition. We urge you to keep sight of what is at stake as you consider the revision of the ETS”, stated CAN Europe, the European Environmental Bureau and Carbon Market Watch.

On 5 October 2026, the NGOs, “representing more than 200 organisations”, wrote a joint open letter to EU Environment ministers, ahead of the Environment Council on 12 October, which will start with a policy debate on the review of the EU ETS. Environment Ministers will express their views about the review package proposed by the Commission on 17 July 2026.
