Veolia: 25-year contract worth €1 Bn for the supply of drinking water in Barcelona's metropolitan area

Veolia has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Barcelona Metropolitan Council worth €1 billion over 25 years to manage essential drinking water services in eight municipalities within the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB),representing around 230,000 residents, on 30 September 2026.

In Catalonia, a region facing increasing water stress, where recent summer droughts have strained water resources, Veolia’s bid - which was ranked first in the technical and economic evaluation carried out by the tendering authority - combines “in-depth knowledge of the region, expertise and global innovation capabilities to guarantee a service of the highest quality that is resilient and offers the best value for money”, the group states.
