ECHA: Szilvia Deim appointed chair of the management board

The Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has elected Hungarian member Szilvia Deim as its new chair for the next two years, the agency announced on 24 September 2026.

In this role, she will lead the Board as ECHA's governing body, overseeing the Agency's budget and planning, appointing the Executive Director and the Chair and members of the Board of Appeal, and reporting on ECHA's activities to the EU institutions.

Deim currently heads the Department for Chemical Safety and Competent Authorities at Hungary's National Center for Public Health and Pharmacy (NCPHP), and succeeds Sofia Zisi of the Greek Independent Authority for Public Revenue, who has chaired the Board for the past two years.
