EU Commission: all Horizon Europe Missions on track, with Climate Adaptation already past its 2030 goal

A new mid-term assessment published by the European Commission on 24 September 2026 finds that all five EU Missions under Horizon Europe continue to move forward on their 2030 goals, with the Climate Adaptation Mission already having exceeded its target.

The Missions, launched in 2021, were designed to channel EU research and innovation funding into practical, real-world solutions for major societal challenges, rather than relying on traditional research instruments alone.

Beyond Climate Adaptation’s early success, the Commission reports steady progress across Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, Cancer, Restore our Ocean and Waters, and A Soil Deal for Europe, each advancing toward its respective 2030 targets.
