Ocean observation: EU and Canada launched the OceanEye International Alliance, pledging “at least €211M”

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney launched the OceanEye International Alliance for the Global Ocean Observing System at a high‑level pledging event in New York on 23 September 2026. In addition to the EU, 30 countries have joined the alliance so far.

The event was held during the UN General Assembly High‑Level Week and brought together heads of state and governments, ministers, and stakeholders to strengthen support for global ocean observation.
