EU/CLimate adaptation: Key aspects of climate risk insurance (European Commission)

Increasing the uptake of insurance, encouraging risk prevention and ensuring sufficient insurance capacity: these are the objectives of the Climate Risk Insurance Alliance announced by Ursula von der Leyen during her 2026 State of the Union address, according to an European Commission spokesperson speaking to News Tank on 17 September 2026.

According to the European Commission, the first pillar aims to ‘support demand through tailored solutions, in particular through measures to raise awareness of risks, improve the transparency of insurance policies, facilitate the prompt payment of claims, and ensure the availability, affordability and suitability of insurance products’.
