Solar : “Covering the additional cost of ‘Made in Europe’ through support mechanisms” (A. Technologies)

“Explicitly accepting a temporary cost premium for ‘Made in Europe’ products, through production support mechanisms and stricter non-price criteria in public tenders”, is one of the recommendations made by the French association Académie des Technologies in its report ‘Conditions for the success of a photovoltaic industry in Europe’, published on 15 September 2026.

The studies reviewed by the Academy estimate the competitiveness gap for European photovoltaic module production at around 30 to 40 per cent compared with Chinese production. This difference in production costs would result in an increase of around 10 to 15 per cent in the final cost of photovoltaic installations.
