Decarbonisation: launch of Green Molecules to Green Steel, joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Moeve

The steel group ArcelorMittal and the Spanish energy group Moeve are setting up a joint innovation platform aimed at developing large-scale industrial demonstrators and thereby “promoting the transition to low-carbon steel and industrial decarbonisation”, they announced on 9 September 2026.

This project, named “Green Molecules to Green Steel” (G2G), focuses on molecule-based energy sources such as biogas and biomethane, renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as second-generation biofuels.

The partners will each hold a 50 per cent stake in this new joint venture, which will be funded by their own resources and public funds. Sekuens, the Asturian agency for science, competitiveness and innovation, “will contribute through existing and future initiatives aimed at promoting innovation…
