FR / Anses: Marta Hugas reappointed as chair of the Scientific Council

Marta Hugas, Scientific Director of the European Food Safety Authority (Efsa) from 2017 to 2022, has been reappointed as Chair of the Scientific Council of Anses (the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety), by a decree dated 9 September 2026, published in the Official Journal on 11 September. She has held this position since 7 November 2023.

Marta Hugas holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, a master’s degree in genetics and microbial biotechnology, and a PhD in food microbiology. She was initially head of the Food Microbiology and Biotechnology Unit at IRTA (Spanish Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology) from 1985 to 2002, and was an associate professor at the University of Barcelona from 1992 to 2004.
