Agreena secures record 4.45 million tonne soil carbon agreement in Kazakhstan

Agreena, the leading European soil carbon platform, announced the largest publicly communicated agreement signed to date in agricultural carbon, in Copenhagen, on 8 September 2027. The agreement covers 4.45 mt of CO2e in soil carbon credits over seven years, bought by one of the largest commodity houses, across a targeted 1,6 Mha of Kazakh farmland by 2028.

Located in northern Kazkhastan's grain belt, where the Chernozems (black soils, in Russian, which count among the most carbon-rich soils in Central Asia) have lost an estimated 28 to 30 per cent of their humus content across decades of conventional farming, this contract will support Kazakh farmers in transitioning to regenerative agriculture.
