PPWR: coalition calls on the Commission to create demand for 'Made in Europe' recycled-plastic products

A coalition of European plastics industry associations, which comprises Recycling Europe, FEAD, and Plastics Recyclers Europe, has called on the Commission to "create genuine demand for high-quality recycled plastics produced in Europe or under standards equivalent to those applicable within the EU," in a joint statement issued on September 2, 2026.

Expected by the end of 2026, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation implementing Act should include a “Made in Europe” preference for plastic recycled-content targets.

According to the signatories, compliance with RC targets should rely on recycled plastics originating from post-consumer waste collected and recycled in Europe (EU27, EFTA and UK).
