Nature Restoration Plans : "At least 7 EU Member States have submitted their draft" (Codruta Savu, WWF)

“As of midday of 2 September 2026, we can confirm through official sources that at least seven EU Member States have submitted their draft National Restoration Plans to the European Commission,” says Codruta Savu, WWF EU Nature Policy Officer, to News Tank on 2 September 2026.

Yesterday was indeed the deadline for EU countries to submit their draft National Restoration Plans under the EU Nature Restoration Law. Those plans have to contain informations on how Member States intend to meet each of the restoration targets up to 2030. It should also provide “a strategic overview of the targets and actions planned to 2040 and 2050”.

To date, only Austria, Bulgaria, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain have indeed submitted their draft, Savu says. “The picture is evolving…
