Wind power: 8.8 GW of new capacity installed in Europe in H1 2026; 7 GW in the EU (WindEurope)

8.8 GW: this is the new installed capacity in Europe in the first half of 2026, according to WindEurope’s report ‘Wind Energy Data for Autumn 2026’, published on 1 September 2026.

A total of 7 GW was installed across the European Union. Europe has an installed capacity of 311 GW and the EU 252 GW.

Germany installed the largest capacity in the first half of 2026, with 3.4 GW, followed by the United Kingdom with 789 MW and Spain with 612 MW. France ranks fourth with 556 MW, of which 142 MW is offshore and 414 MW is onshore.

National governments collectively awarded more than 17 GW of wind power capacity through auctions in the first half of 2026, according to the association.
