UNEP: "We must hold fast to global commitments and try to return to below 1.5°C" (I. Andersen)

“We must hold fast to global commitments under the Paris Agreement, try to return to below 1.5°C by the end of the century and adapt to the impacts of climate change”, says Inger Andersen, UN Environment Program Executive Director, on the occasion of the release of a new report, on 2 September 2026.

Entitled “Limiting overshoot : Navigating exceedance of 1.5ºC and pathways towards return”, the report underlines that despite progress made by the international community on climate change, “global action to cut greenhouse gas emissions has not been fast enough to avoid global warming crossing 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels in the next few years”.
