Italy: €594 M funding by the Ministry of Environment to improve air quality through sustainable mobility

Italy's Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) has made available €594.45 M to fund sustainable urban mobility projects carried out by metropolitan cities and municipalities, as part of the country's National Action Plan for air quality, on 26 August 2026.

The funding will help local authorities tackle two air quality problems that have exposed Italy to EU infringement proceedings: elevated PM10 and NO2 levels. The money is split across two programmes, both administered by MASE, aimed at cutting transport emissions in the urban areas most affected.
