Solar: UK government legalises plug-in solar panels that can make households “save hundreds on bills”

“From today, the easy-to-install panels can be plugged into homes across the country, saving households up to £110 a year on their bills through clean, homegrown power,” the UK government announced on 27 August 2026, as it officially legalised the purchase and use of plug-in solar panels.

The UK has become the latest country of Europe to ease restrictions on plug-in solar, joining a broader shift toward home-grown renewables as governments respond to fossil fuel volatility triggered by the war on Iran. “Homegrown power is the only way to deliver energy security for the country and financial security for families and businesses,” the UK government said.
