ED / France: Gravelines power station once again affected by ‘a massive influx of jellyfish’

EDF has been forced to shut down two nuclear reactors at the Gravelines power station (Nord) and to reduce the output of two others due to “massive new arrivals of jellyfish”, the group said on 27 August 2026.

The state-owned energy company shut down generating unit No. 6 ‘as a precautionary measure’ during the night of Wednesday 26 to Thursday 27 August 2026. Unit 3 was also shut down on 26 August 2026 for the same reasons. This reactor had been reconnected to the grid on 18 August 2026, a week after being shut down due to an initial “massive” influx of jellyfish. That initial incident had led to the shutdown of three reactors in total.
