The energy policies implemented by the Trump administration could result in up to $700 billion (€600 billion) less being invested in the US electricity system by 2035, according to a study by the NGO Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC), published on 25 August 2026.

The organisation has assessed the cumulative impact of the measures taken by Donald Trump since his return to the White House. These policy decisions will reduce new wind, solar and storage capacity in the country from 540 GW to 390 GW, according to the NRDC. The study highlights, in particular, the scrapping of renewable energy subsidy schemes, the imposition of tariffs and the withdrawal of permits for certain offshore wind projects.
