"Pests": the LPO has lodged a new appeal with the Council of State against the renewal of the list

The French NGO Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) is preparing a new appeal to the Council of State against a decree renewing the list of "species likely to cause damage" (ESOD) for three years, the organisation announced on 21 August 2026.

Indeed, according to the LPO, “despite scientific studies highlighting the ineffectiveness of this measure, the French State is maintaining a system that allows for the destruction of numerous wild species and is going back on its commitments to biodiversity, notably by reclassifying the pine marten as an ESOD species”.

This text, published in the Official Journal, thus renews the ESOD classification of nine wild species - four mammals and five birds - until 2029: the pine marten, the weasel, the stone marten, the fox, the magpie, the Eurasian…
