Germany: progressive phasing-out of feed-in tariffs for new renewable energy projects from 2027 onwards

The German government plans to phase out feed-in tariffs for new wind, solar and biomass installations, according to a draft reform of the Renewable Energy Act adopted by the Cabinet and announced on 29 July 2026.

The measure applies to future installations coming online from 2027 onwards. These will have to sell their electricity directly on the markets. Existing installations will retain the support conditions previously granted to them.

“We are bringing about a paradigm shift for renewables,” said Katherina Reiche, German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.
