Battery Booster: the European Commission launches a call for applications

On 28 July 2026, the European Commission is launching the call for applications for the Battery Booster scheme, which will provide €1.5 billion in funding to the selected gigafactories. This scheme, designed to facilitate the creation of a ‘made in Europe’ battery supply chain, is open to developers of gigafactories in the ramp-up phase, located on European soil. For these manufacturers, this must be their first large-scale production project worldwide for battery cells intended for electric vehicles, and the annual production capacity must reach at least 10 GWh.
Successful applicants will be eligible for interest-free loans covering up to 60 per cent of eligible costs, up to a limit of €500 million per project.
