EU: 26.2 per cent of gross final energy consumption coming from renewables in 2025

Renewable energy accounted for 26.2 per cent of gross final energy consumption in the European Union in 2025, compared with 25.2 per cent in 2024, according to Eurostat data published on 23 July 2026. The statistical series begins in 2004, when the share of renewables stood at 9.6 per cent.

Sweden has the highest share at 65.4 per cent, followed by Finland at 53 per cent and Denmark at 48.2 per cent. The lowest shares are recorded in Belgium (14.9 per cent), Slovakia (16.3 per cent) and Ireland (17.2 per cent).

Renewable sources accounted for 49.9 per cent of the EU’s gross electricity consumption in 2025, up 2.4 percentage points on 2024. Austria has the highest share at 90.8 per cent, followed by Sweden (89.2 per cent) and Denmark (77.7 per cent). The lowest shares are observed in Malta…
