EU Commission: €103 million Dutch state aid to accelerate greening of maritime fleet

The European Commission has given its approval to a €103 million state aid scheme from the Netherlands designed to speed up the transition to greener technology across the Dutch maritime sector, on 27/07/2026.

The program is intended to support shipping companies in overcoming two key barriers that are currently holding back adoption to cleaner shipping technology: high upfront investment costs and limited market incentives. Grants under the scheme will run from 2027 through 2031, closing the funding gap needed to meet targets set out in EU rules like FuelEU Maritime and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
