Green hydrogen: French certification aligned with the European Commission methodology

The French framework for classifying hydrogen as low-carbon or renewable has been updated to bring it into line with European methodology, in a decree issued by the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial Sovereignty, Energy and Digital of 7 July 2026, published in the Official Journal on 24 July 2026.

This new framework comes into force on 25 July 2026. It applies to producers, transporters, storage licence holders and consumers of hydrogen.

For hydrogen to be classified as low-carbon, the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions must now comply with the methodology set out in European Delegated Regulation 2025/2359.
