Monique Barbut, Minister for Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Climate and Nature Negotiations, tendered her resignation to Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, who declined it, according to Maud Bregeon, Government Spokesperson, on 22 July 2026.

Following this Cabinet meeting, Maud Bregeon announced that Monique Barbut would ultimately remain in her post.

“The President of the Republic has rejected her resignation and, instead, they have agreed on three fundamental pillars: forests, water and environmental health. These are three areas in which Monique Barbut has agreed to remain fully committed,” said Maud Bregeon.

Monique Barbut has held this post since November 2025. She succeeded Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
