UK: Miatta Fahnbulleh appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero

Miatta Fahnbulleh has been appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero in the Government of the new UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, on 21 July 2026.
She has been an economic advisor to Andy Burnham, and she was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, before resigning on 12 May 2026.
She was also previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero between 9 July 2024 and 6 September 2025.

She studied philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford and obtained a PhD degree in economic development from the London School of Economics in 2005.
