Cypermethrin ban: Commission initiates "lengthy procedure" instead of complying with EU Court ruling

"The Commission has decided to shelve the matter and initiate a lengthy administrative regarding the review of the EU approval of cypermethrin, a bee-toxic and endocrine-disrupting pesticide, instead of complying with the ruling of the EU Court", PAN Europe said on 14/07/2026.

On December 2025, the Court of Justice of the EU declared, on appeal, the 2021 reapproval of this insecticide "as being illegal". Particularly regarding "the absence of risk assessment of a representative formulation, major data gaps regarding genotoxicity, and by relying on unrealistic and unscientific risk mitigation measures", the ONG specified.
