Carbon market: WWF is "advocating that EU policymakers stay the course with ETS", ahead of the revision

WWF is advocating that EU policymakers stay the course with the ETS," the NGO states on July 16, 2026, on the eve of the Commission's unveiling of its proposal to revise the system on July 17, 2026.

According to Camille Maury, Senior Policy Officer on industrial decarbonisation at WWF, this revision is "the first real test of the EU's commitment to its 2040 climate target, setting the tone for a wave of other climate policy revisions later this year".

In particular, the NGO calls for:
• "Keep both the current linear reduction factor until 2036 and the ETS cap trajectory in place: the ETS cap sets the maximum amount of pollution covered by the system, while LRF determines how quickly that cap declines over time.
