“Taxation must send the right signals to prioritise clean energy produced in Europe over imported fossil fuels,” said Céline Gauer, Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, speaking before the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee on 14 July 2026.

The European Action Plan for Electrification is expected by 17 July 2026. It is intended to accelerate the electrification of end-use sectors across the European Union.“It will address, in particular, taxation, grid tariffs and specific barriers in the building, industry and transport sectors,” says Céline Gauer.
