A guidance on Natura 2000 and climate change from the European Commission is published in the Official Journal of the European Union, on 13/07/2026.

The document is not legally binding and does not create new obligations. However, it provides presents a range of measures that Member States may choose to implement.

"This guidance document aims to provide advice on how to take a structured approach to climate change adaptation for Natura 2000 sites, consistent with existing national climate adaptation strategies under the European Climate Law and the national restoration plans under the Nature Restoration Regulation", it specified.
