Maive Rute has been appointed as Deputy Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Commission announced on 07/07/2026. At this position, she will oversee the institution's scientific and knowledge-service work in support of EU policymaking.

On 01/09/2026, she will leave her current post as Deputy Director-General of DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), where she has led work on industrial policy, critical raw materials, supply chains and standardisation since November 2020.

An Estonian national, Maive Rute graduated cum laude in economics from the Estonian Life Sciences University in 1991, before earning an MBA in Austria (1996) and a MA in International Politics from Belgium (2009, magna cum laude).
