FR / Renewable energy: 388 TWh of primary generation in 2024; 25 per cent of France’s primary generation

Primary renewable energy production accounted for 25 per cent of total primary energy production in France in 2024, according to final data on the development of renewable energy in France, published by the SDES (French public Data and Statistic Studies Service) and compiled by News Tank on 6 July 2026.

This stands at 388 TWh, up 4 per cent on 2023. The increase is driven in particular by the hydropower sector, where production rose by 27 per cent between 2023 and 2024 due to an exceptional year in terms of rainfall in regions with high production capacity. The expansion of heat pump and solar panel installations also had a positive impact, whilst wind power generation fell by 8 per cent.
