“To scale up biomethane, we need a long-term framework. At European level, there are ambitions, with REPowerEU. But the regulatory framework remains complicated and uncertain,” said Pierre Chambon, director of Engie’s renewable gas activities, to News Tank on 3 July 2026.

The group operates 42 biomethane sites across Europe, including 35 in France. It plans to ramp up its operations in this sector over the coming years and reach an annual capacity of 10 TWh by 2035.
